The Ultimate Bali Carry-On

carryon carryon2Deciding what to keep by your side, and what to store away in the hold before a holiday can be a nightmare.

I mean seriously. What do you pack for the flight? What’s the weather going to be like when you get there? But the flight is always so cold?! You know, those kind of questions.

Now, I’m not going to bore you with a long list of everything pictured above because hey, everyone’s different. Instead, I’m going to share a few of my absolute essentials for those long, long hours in the air.

So this trip to Bali will, in total, see me spend around 50 hours either in the air or in airports. I need to keep occupied. Sure we’re flying Emirates and their in-flight entertainment is fabulous (think VERY recent box office releases), but sometimes you need to switch that screen off and give your eyes a break. That and the 5 hours I spent in Dubai airport on my way here… For me essentials include a good, thick book (here is Louis deBernieres’ ‘Birds Without Wings’), a good travel guide for the place I’m going, and my phone + travel charger, in airplane mode of course.

Travelling is ridiculously tiring, even when sitting in the same place for 9 hours. To keep my body happy I always pack a series of mini-moisturisers (this time from Neal’s Yard), a good lip balm and some hand sanitiser for those airplane loos. Lately I’ve also taken to adding a pack of plasters and a mini bottle of micellar water. Perfect for a quick mid-flight cleanse and moisturise to refresh. While not pictured, a toothbrush and toothpaste are high on the list too. Make nap-time for like bed-time! I also can’t go anywhere without a touch of concealer so obviously that’s going to be thrown in too!

Possibly the most important things in my bag are my socks and fleece. Even though London is sunny at the moment, and even though Bali is a balmy 30 degrees, the AC on the planes will not be. Not at all. In fact, its probably going to be -10000 degrees up there and you’re going to be cold. I love my black M&S fleece more than I care to admit – its so cosy, so warm and SO lightweight. On the rest of my trip it can be super easily rolled up and kept at the bottom of my bag. Easy peasy.

Now all I need is my passport and travel documents and I’m good to go! (I also like to pick up a bottle of water and some snacks when I’m through security. Remember, water is the best ever!)

I have also already wondered what to wear on my oncoming flight, but up to now I don’t know how the weather will at the starting airport, so maybe it isn’t that much of a change 😉

I ended up wearing a pair of cropped sports leggings and light t-shirt (plus fleece and socks) haha! Super comfy and also pretty good for the heat too once the fleece was off! Thanks for reading! xx
