[dropcap]S[/dropcap]o I’m back from Africa, slightly sunburnt (think a sexy V shape on my chest) and slightly full of tagine, and definitely feeling like London just isn’t quite as beautiful. Marrakech was straight up stunning. Think beautiful colours, beautiful tiles, beautiful food and wonderful people. I can personally recommend it as a go-to destination if you have three or four days to kill.
We arrived around 2pm to our riad, just on the outskirts of the Marrakech Medina, and instantly knew we’d made the right choice. It was stunning. Shout out to Riad Jardin d’Abdou. With our gorgeous room situated with a stunning view into the central courtyard we were instantly happy and set about unpacking a little. Then came a knock on the door. We opened it to see the wonderful concierge inviting us for a silver pot of traditional Moroccan mint tea and biscuits in the courtyard. A modern day hero. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Marrakech then I genuinely can’t recommend Jardin d’Abdou enough. They go out of their way to make your stay there as perfect as possible. Amazing massive breakfasts (pancakes, etc.), tea whenever you ask, taxis booked for wherever and whenever, and an amazing knowledge of the area and best places to go. I’ll be staying there again.
After exploring the riad’s terrace, we set off into town to find our bearings, take a look at the Koutoubia Mosque, and find some dinner a bit later on. Marrakech is super busy. People everywhere all the time. The bustle and vibes are amazing, if exhausting. Street vendors and bikes zooming all around you and the call to prayer echoing through the streets: it’s just fantastic.
Anyway, that’s enough chatting from me. Here are a few of the snaps I took on that first afternoon. You’ll have seen a few of them on my instagram, and will definitely see them again when I get round to posting more on there. I’m obsessed with the colour and light and aghhh! Have a look!
