What I'm Looking Forward To In 2017

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]‘ve really been rolling out the 2017 themed posts lately, haven’t I? All sorts of posts about words and goals and small things and whatever. Nothing like the start of a new year to clear your head and make you sit down and actually write things. And y’know what? It’s really nice. Everyone is writing the same post about achieving things in 2017 and I love it. I bladdy love it.

So what’s next on my list of 2017 themed posts, I hear you cry. Well, if the title didn’t give it away, it’s just a little summary of what’s going to be happening to me over the next 12 months. Or the things that I know for sure are maybe going to be happening, y’know?

Real talk, not a lot is going to happen. Unlike last year where I was travelling about all the time and skipping around random countries willy-nilly, this year I’m pretty much doing nothing very adventurous at all. I kinda like the idea of that. Doing nothing, and really focusing on a select set of things.

Jan, Feb, March and April will see me doing nothing but uni stuff. I’ll be writing my dissertation, writing half a dozen essays on top of that, and generally doing student things like crying over a chicken nugget, onto a pile of unopened books. Living the dream. Nah but it’ll also be really fun and I’m cool with that.

March will also see me and Ollie jetting off to Marrakech for a few days to explore! I’m so so so excited – I can’t even tell you. I’ve wanted to go to Marrakech forever and now it’s finally happening!

After that I have the ever exciting dissertation hand-in, followed by a set of super fun exams around the end of May. What a time to be alive.

Guys, this student thing is so bad when it’s written on paper. In Paris I literally did no work at all. Rien. In Durham it’s all essays and seminars and lectures and presentations and bloody hell! Hooray.

Generally, within the whole ‘two terms left of uni’ time, I’m also hoping to apply/hear back from a number of applications for masters places all over the place. But I’m not talking about them because I don’t want to jinx it, so don’t ask. Still, exciting!

So then I graduate! Touch wood. Then I’m either officially unemployed with no idea what I want to do, or I’m still a student. Again, let’s not talk about it.

There’s talk amongst my family about a trip to Canada and the north-west coast of America, but that’s also quite up in the air. If the trip does materialise it’ll be such a dream trip, with Canada being one of those places I’m always always wanted to go. It’s such a beautiful country and really is such an exciting prospect.

Ollie is planning on going for a little bit of a travel this summer and I’d love to go with him for a little bit. He wants to go to Vietnam, somewhere I’ve already been, so I might pass on that. It’s a lot of money to spend on a trip, and I’d rather it was spent on a new experience, rather than a repeat trip (of sorts). We’re both thinking that maybe Cambodia would be a good place to do together. I’ve wanted to go ever since I got back from Vietnam in 2012 so I’m really excited at the prospect. We’ll see what happens.

After that, who knows? I could be anywhere doing anything. Scary. Really scary.

I’m not bothered though. Whatever happens, happens. It’ll work itself out, and is still a long way away.

I’m looking forward to what might be a pretty boring year. I think it’s just what I need.

  • Sounds like a nice little break from the adventure of last year, but sometimes that’s just what you need! I feel you with final year dissertation/exams/deadlines excitement – the next few months are well and truly going to be interesting – but god I can’t wait to graduate!! After that is when I’m planning my travels so cannot bloomin’ wait!

Wow – Cambodia is meant to be amazing and I definitely share your love for Canada! And I can say Marrakech is amazing too – you picked the right time to go, I went in summer and it was insanely hot!!

Huge Good Luck for your work and can’t wait to read about your year!

Oh girrrrl! Good luck with finishing uni and graduating! It’s all so fun! That was me last year, the last run controls your life basically. Make the most of living near your uni friends before graduating, even if you do only get together to study and such. And try not to worry about the after, it all works out somehow, eventually haha 😛

Ahhh Marrakech! So excited for you now, I’ve been wanting to go for ages but there’s visa issues involved -_- keeping my fingers crossed that your Canada trip materialises, it’s a beautiful country. My grandma and uncle + cousins live there and I’ve been to visit, and it’s just a wonderful side of the world! 🙂

Cambodia is supposed to be stunning and is high on my list too. I’m disappointed that despite being from South East Asia, I’ve never actually been!

Sometimes the boring years are the best years! Just because you don’t have solid plans, doesn’t mean some amazing things won’t come out of this year. And even if they don’t, and it’s just a pretty good, but boring, year, as long as you’re happy who cares! Good luck with all your uni work! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
