When it comes to things like magic weight loss aids I am reasonably skeptical.

If you read my review of VIP Vicky’s Mini:Burn supplements then you’ll understand my skepticism. The detox teas that have been floating around the market for a year or so have really caught my attention. Promising aided weight loss (really a clever way of making you think they’ve promised you actual weight loss but really they’re just ‘helping’) and a cleaner, more energised body, these teas were obviously right up my street as something to try.

The SkinnyMint teatox is no different. The teatox comes in two parts: a daily morning tea and an evening tea, to be taken every other night. Flavour wise the teas are actually not too bad! I’m a bit weird about herby, fruit teas (ironic as my blog name is nettle&blackberry…) so it did take a little getting used to. I’ve slowly been getting into them more lately though so that’s great news for everyone involved. But yes, all in all, these teas taste okay and I managed to drink them okay. So that’s okay.

I started drinking these teas exactly two weeks ago today and I don’t really know what to think. Perhaps I need more time? Perhaps they don’t work? Perhaps I’ve been relying on a tea bag to solve all my problems? Perhaps the idea of spending £17.99 on tea has made me maintain stress weight?

Let’s start with the pros:

As I said, the taste is pretty okay – not too woody or bitter or sweet or anything negative. I’m going to even go so far as to say that the sheer averageness of the taste is a massive plus as they are really quite easy to drink. Also they do have a subtle mint taste so that’s a tick for the name! + A bonus point for pretty packaging. Perfect for blog photos and that classic minimalist blog vibe.

They do also promote a healthier attitude to liquid consumption. Anyone that knows me will know that I swear by drinking water as a weight loss aid (I even bought a friend a water bottle as a random present because she wanted to drop a few pounds – water is the most obvious secret in the world!) Anything that encourages anyone to drink at least two more cups of water a day is alright in my books. As well as this, the packaging does say that the tea is to be taken along side a balanced diet and I fully support that too.

But will this teatox make me lose weight?

Well, I don’t know. Basically. I ate what I would normally eat alongside these teas and as of yet have not lost any weight that I would attribute to the tea. I have lost weight purely through the laxative effect that the night-time tea has, however I obviously ate that back and it was dead weight, not fat. Because I do drink so much water regularly (try about 3litres a day) the anti-bloat effect was kind of lost on me as I rarely bloat anyway (water is the tits).

I do believe that these teas can actually help you to lose weight if, big ‘if’, you are not someone accustomed to drinking a lot of teas and water already. When combined with a healthy diet they will probably be quite effective, however always bear in mind that the healthy diet will be the main cause of any permanent change.

Drink plenty of water, eat healthy balanced meals and work hard. Weight loss will come naturally and your body will thank you for taking it slowly.

    I’m skeptical about things like this as well, they’re called fads for a reason 😛
    You’re definitely right about water though, I’ve been trying to drink a lot more and whilst it hasn’t changed my weight it has made my skin a whole lot better 🙂

      Exactly – normally when a diet thing becomes a bit too popular I really start to wonder what the catch is haha!

    Great review Imii, I’m always sceptical of quick fixes to weight loss (but would totally try it if someone swore by it) so think I am going to up my water intake and try to eat a bit more healthily!

      Yesss! WATERRR!!! I think water is one of those things that people forget because we like to think it’s in everything anyway! Two litres seems a lot to start with but you don’t have to gulp it down in one go (: Your body/skin/mind/soul/life with definitely thank you for it! xx
