[dropcap]A[/dropcap]nother short one from me today as I’m still recovering from the whole drama that was exams. They all went pretty well so I’m happy, but still absolutely exhausted and a little lacking in inspiration for the old blog. It’s also been pouring with rain for the last three days which is super fun. Basically I’m just feeling a little flat at the moment.
However, one thing has really pushed me through the last week, and stopped me running home for a few days and spending well over £100 on train tickets to do so. I have great friends.
Don’t get me wrong, I also have some really dicky m8s who have really pissed me off lately. But all in all, I have some great friends.
Friends are weird, aren’t they? Like, you just meet someone and then either you like them or you don’t really and then you’re expected to spend time with them and love them. Everyone says that they’re the family that you choose, which is fair enough.
But actually sometimes you don’t choose your pals. You kind of end up with them, and learn to love them. They’re friends of pals who you have to be friends with but that’s about it, at least for a while. Again, sometimes you stay friends with them and sometimes you don’t. I hardly talk to anyone I went to school with for seven years, and I tend to be really scatty when it comes to making and keeping friends for sustained periods. That doesn’t mean, however, that the friends I have, whether I chose them or not, I don’t love fiercely.
Friendship is a weird one, and it’s currently very late at night and I don’t really know where I’m going with this one.
Our friends are the people that make us, and to some extent define us. They mould us into who we are and are there for us in the ups and downs of life. They *should* have our back but also be able to tell us when we are wrong, or out of order, or just being horrible. True pals aren’t the ones that tell us we’re great 24/7, they’re the ones that tell us we’re being stupid but support us through anyway. I like a friend that’s willing to tell me I’m being straight up wrong about something but are willing to stand by me as I learn from it myself. I hope I do the same for my friends, too.
I’ve been lucky enough this year to make some amazing friends, and have existing friendships grow stronger.
I just think that’s pretty cool, to be honest.0
