Lately I’ve been putting on my makeup in bed. Sure I have a lovely little dressing room and dressing table, but I also have a cup of tea and an electric blanket. You see the dilemma. Also, how cold has it been lately?! I mean, I know the whole country has been thrown into disarray with the whole *snow* thing the last few days, but even before that was a nightmare.
I’m totally over snow, by the way. This is like the fifth or sixth big ol’ snow that we’ve had in Durham in two months and I’m so done with slipping and sliding my way to lectures. Too many bruises in a very short time period. Enough is enough, weather.
Anyway, I’ve been putting my makeup on in the comfort of my bed. Easy makeup that can be done with only a small mirror, that gives you that ‘no-makeup’ glow that everyone’s looking for at the moment. Super quick, super chill.
My base is made up of a few simple products. Following a quick bit of moisturising I use a few splodges of NYX ‘Born To Glow’ Primer, and Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow. I then blend one pump of Bourjois’ Healthy Mix foundation over my skin with a wet beauty blender. I like to layer the two primers as I’m alllll about that glow from within vibe. All about it. I’m also hugely behind on the Healthy Mix bandwagon. I know it’s been everyone’s favourite for ever and ever now. I only really picked it up because I was feeling sad in Boots once and thought yolo. I’m obsessed. I can see why it’s such a cult product. Beautiful smooth application, no caking, all good. It’s that perfect mix of matte enough to not be glossy, but not so matte that it shows off every pore and imperfection. Dewy yet great coverage. I really can’t recommend this combination of products enough, to be honest. Even up what you need to with a trusty MAC concealer, and you’re good to go!
To style away the flat faced potato look I use Charlotte Tilbury’s Instant Look in a Palette. It’s everything in one pretty little package. I use the bronzer to lightly contour and sort out my pasty winter skin, then follow with both blushes, and finish with the beautiful golden highlight. BAM! From zero to hero, just like that. I’m not really an eyeshadow gal, especially if I’m just getting ready for the day in bed, so don’t tend to use the shadow section of the palette that much. The face half, however, is honestly superb. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
Brows are a really cheap and cheerful Sleek Brow Pencil, followed by a few coats of Glossier’s Boy Brow. The brow pencil is just my favourite ever, and I’m on, I think, my third or fourth. Boy Brow can be taken or left. It’s fabulous, but there are some great highstreet alternatives to what really is just a good brow gel. A few coats of mascara and we’re done! x
