Blogging Aims For 2017

Blogging Aims For 2017
[dropcap]B[/dropcap]logging has taken a little bit of a back seat of late. I’ve been working hard on things like my degree and have let my dedication to the online world slip just a little bit. On the whole, however, the last 12 months have just been excellent for me online.

I’ve reached over 1000 followers on bloglovin’, 2000 on twitter, and smashed my goal of 3000 on instagram with a cool 6.1k followers. I’ve improved my photography no end. I’ve worked on my own design skills, and seem to have secretly rebranded n&b every two minutes. It’s safe to say now, touch wood, that I’m happy with how it’s all going and looking.

I’ve started collaborating a lot with brands, something that would have seemed a little too far off this time last year. I’ve worked with some great people and brands and had some amazing opportunities and I’m incredibly grateful for all of it. I feel like blogging is one of the first things I’ve found that I really and truly enjoy doing constantly. N&b is now coming up to 2 whole years old and it’s still going strong. That’s pretty cool.

Still, 2016 has come and gone and now we have to think about the future. Time to think of a few little aims for the next 12 months.

SCHEDULE A WEEK IN ADVANCE+

Because I’ve let everything go over the last month or so, my content planning and creating has been awful. I’m now at the stage where most of the blog posts I write get published immediately because I haven’t posted in a while and I need to get something out there asap. It’s so lame, and it’s something I’ve never done before. I’ve always scheduled my posts. Always.

Time to put a stop to my laziness. Time to schedule everything at least a week in advance, like the good old days. Back when I was actually on top of things.

POST AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK/FOUR TIMES A MONTH

So hand in hand with all of that stuff above, to schedule things I need to actually post things. I need to sit and do the work. Get my head in the game. Throwback to when I used to post three times a week!

Over the next few months I have a whole load of work to get done, as well as the old dissertation, so I’m keeping my goals quite small. Just one well thought out, well written post is enough for me. And hey, if more come along then hooray! The more the merrier!

I know it can be done to work super hard on blog and school and work and everything else all at once, but I don’t especially want to at this point in my life. Time to prioritise properly.

HIT 12K INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS

Instagram is my all time favourite thing. Despite the blog stuff falling behind, I always have time for instagram. It’s weird. I just find it easier and more fun and engagement and growth come a lot more easily and I dig that. Anyway, just after new year I hit 6.1k and I’m over the moon. Literally thrilled. Onwards and upwards from here? I think so! Let’s double it!

WORRY LESS ABOUT BEING PERFECT

Something I’ve begun to really notice lately is others’ perceptions and how they differ from my own. An instagram photo I may not be keen on, but posted anyway, can get way more likes than one I’m just not bothered about. A post that took me 10 minutes to bash out can be shared and commented on a million times. It’s just about what people like at that particular moment. I just need to worry less and get more imperfect posts out there. Anything is better than nothing, and might just surprise me.

  • I love the last one! It’s so true. The amount of times I’ve posted something I’m so proud of only to get nothing back, and then I shoot off a rubbish photo of sometimes and it goes crazy! Definitely going to try and channel this into my own creative stuff 🙂

    Happy new year! xx

Good luck with your blogging goals! Unless we’re working full time on our blogs, it’s understandable that they take a back seat, some years more so than others… completing a degree is definitely a huge undertaking in itself!

Wishing you lots of success for 2017, and also, well done for smashing Instagram! It’s a funny thing now that the algorithm is in full swing, and I’ve yet to work out a magic formula for mine… but I figure that so long as I’m enjoying using the app, I’m onto a good thing – there’s really no point spending precious free time on something we don’t enjoy doing, is there? 🙂 x

It’s so amazing how much you have grown in a year! I have decided 2017 is my make or break blogging year, my blog is nearly a year old and if it can make it to two years then I think I’ll have cracked it and I’ll be happy. It’s time to put some work into the layout and continue to improve my photography. Fingers crossed! xo

Would you say investing in the layout is an important step?

      • Imii Mace says:

I think it’s entirely up to you and what your personal budget it re: your blog, but I also think it helps to look as professional as possible. Pipdig do some great layouts that are pretty timeless so are a good investment. If you’re up for making investments for your blog then I think your very first step is to buy your own domain! It makes you look so pro with no work at all and is so so worth it!! Best of luck! x

Great goals – good luck with them. Funnily enough, one of my blogging goals for 2017 is to schedule at least a week in advance. I’ve always been a spontaneous poster. Well. I have my set blogging days, MWFSu, but I would always bash out a post on that day/evening and then publish it. Over Christmas, I had to get organised because I was away from my laptop so much and I really loved being organised and having posts scheduled. So I’m going to keep it up in the NY. xx

I’ve been blogging for over a year now and never have been able to plan more than a week in advance so I suppose that’s how I do things. Congrats for the Instagram hitting mark! I had the same thoughts recently about that idea of perfection and how it is perceived by others; looks what appears perfect to us isn’t to others and vice versa. Conclusion? Do what we want and hope for the best x

I admit I have to put a stop to my laziness as well =o) There are so many times I feel like I am rushing to finish a blog post in time. Hopefully this year I will be better =o)

Best of luck with your goals! Can’t wait to see what you share with us this year =o)
